Eastlink - how good is it? :)

Postby sphell » July 1st, 2008, 9:28 pm

Has anyone else been using Eastlink for work over the last couple of days? I live in Kilsyth and this morning I got from home to Northcote in only 35mins and got home from Carrum Downs in peak hour also in 35mins!! The Carrum Downs trip would normally take about an hour and a quarter going up Dandy/Frankston Rd and then Stud Rd. I don't care if it's a toll road the amount of petrol and time you save is worth it. I reckon it's mint :D

sounds like it will be very good for alot of east siders.
seems to save alot of time to make the toll worth it.

I used it on sunday coming home from eildon and I used it today going from Dandy to mitcham and back and its awesome. Halves the times atleast. When we were on there, there was a 6 car pile up on it at about 6.30pm tonight.

its pretty mint, got from my place (ascot vale) to frankston in 45 minutes in the morning. 90% of that trip is tolls...LOL
there was traffic jams on it this afternoon tho.

I've used it the last few days going to work in Reservoir from Cheltenham. It's been a touch quicker than using the Monash and then Western Ring Rd, but only a few minutes here and there.

Ive used it to get from home (carrum downs) to work (keysborough)....not the longest of trips, but it takes me 7 minutes both getting there AND coming home. If I use frankston dandy rd its normally a 15-20 minute drive, so even that short distance I save a bit of time.
It good to be on a different road also, driving on the same road day after day becomes boring as hell!!!

school holodays would be helping but still, impressive so far

Went on it for a bit from Carrum Downs to meet up last night, wtf is up with the fake hotel!? Lol. Definately a few random money wasters involved but apart from that looks pretty cool all lit up at night from what i have seen so far.

Postby Dansedgli » July 2nd, 2008, 8:20 am

Has anyone used it to come into the city during peak hour?

Im thinking that its better everywhere except at the end of the freeway near hoddle st. On the radio the other day they said traffic was backed up to Doncaster Road at 7:45. That is fairly fucked considering its school holidays if its going to be a daily occurence.

I was all keen for this road to open before I got my bike written off now I dont care so much. It will be good for the odd trip the Carrum Downs to buy a $800 EF or Hallam dyno days but I doubt Ill use it for anything else. It will be worth the money to avoid stud road.

i agree Dan, i think its made the end of the frankston freeway and the eastern freeway worse.
but it was bound to happen, they already were bottle necks.

The eastern freeway was sht at the Hoddle st end *BEFORE* Eastlink joined up. Now its going to be a joke.

Fortunately fuel prices seem to be making the streets quieter lately :P

A+++ road. Will use again.

It would've made my life 10 times easier when I lived in Carrum Downs for a few months last year.

Stud road is shit so it's good to have a better alternative :)

Good bit of road - saves me an easy 20 mins on the way home everyday - will be interesting to see how busy it is when the cheap kents have to start coughing up...so far, every man and his dog are (ab)using it...nearly as much as me :P

I have used it everyday since it opened mainly for work. I save a good 15 mins going on the Eastern FWY all the way to Dandy from Hoddle Street onramp. I have travelled the whole length several times just for fun before Toll take place :D

Yeah even DUMP3D will feel at home!

Used it a few times and it rocks, only downside is you have to pay everytime you use it which instead of a day pass where you can use as many times as you want for one fee, I gotta pay to use tunnel each time in a day!

I travel abit backwards and forwards especially the tunnel buuuuut its still a helluva lot better than springy and mitcham roads!
