My Next Project ..

Postby slo_au2 » June 29th, 2008, 2:03 pm

Well , its about time i started to forget about my AU .. Ive had fun with it , but now id like to Make something else go Mildly insane for a While ..

Im looking at either Getting an EB2 or an ED and doing a Turbo Install on it , like most of you , but not only will this car be On the Road for Street Use , Id Eventually want to take it to America with me in November 2009 for my West to East Roadtrip , rather than Hiring a Loaner .. I have been in contact with my uncles shipping company that he works for and he can Ship the car there and back for $2750 all up .. Which is good considering that its usually $3000 one way ..

So Basically its a Shout out to anyone knowing of any Cheap Sedan's Of the EB2-ED Range , Preferable to Manuals , but Autos are just as Good , Colour isnt a Worry , but im a Bit Partial to black ..

Anyway , Let us Know guys if you see anything ..

Cheers
Daniel

Whether it will happen or not is another story, but anyway...

Look for a V8 manual, at least theres 5.0 and T5 parts galore in the US. It would suck being stuck in the middle of nowhere for a month while an I6 thermostat housing or something simple is shipped over from here. Finding BTR trans fluid might be a problem too.

What are the legalities of driving a post 86 model RHD car in the US? Thought about buying a US car, driving it then bringing it back here?

mustangs or ex cop crown vics / chev caprice's are always good value....grab one when you get over there and flog it off when you're finished your holiday / bring it back if you feel that way inclined..

as mentioned, at least there will be parts when (not if) stuff breaks.....across the us isnt a small trip!

Do you have any info on the legalities of it all? I'm honestly interested, Seppos pull themselves stupid over just about every Ford V8 we have.

On the other hand, you could buy an 05 Mustang (retro shape), drive it around, then get it delivered to Aus and converted to RHD for under $50k. I suspect you'd spend similar amounts on the Falcon.

They'd probably think it would be a 80's BMW/ Merc/ Audi remember ... "In 1984, a clay EA model without badges was shown in a clinic in Germany, and its styling was preferred overall to that of a then current BMW 5 series, Mercedes 190, Renault 25... and even the Audi 100, which some viewers thought the EA was the replacement for."

I'd say go for the 5.0 Windsor route due to the extra parts/ modifications available over there but if you want to go down the 4.0 Inline 6 Turbo route bring lots of spares.

if you do go ahead with taking a E Series over to America remember to make a thread here and update it with reactions of the yanks.

The reaction of the yanks will include being pulled over, the car getting impounded and you having to pay lots of fines. But it will be a reaction none the less.

Sounds like a stupid idea to me, unless you are made of money that is.

If you do go ahead with this, you HAVE to have e-series stickers on it! :D

Manual 5.0 for sure, so much awesome Windsor/Fox gear over there. You should rip a skid in every state you go though & post pics/vids here :P
