Why are people assuming the car is a shitter????

log manifold $100 or $400 for 2nd hand Snort
Turbo $3-500
Injectors $300
ECU $500 (Wolf in classifieds)
FMIC $175
Exhaust tubing and muffler $150
Cooler piping $100
Weld diff
Auto elect mods $25
Convertor $400

See, easy...
You would weld the diff over an 80 buck spool and expect it to hold up?
It's gonna just axels with that kinda power

If you have discs and airbags you can run 10's without a cage in Qld, WA and, I think, Vic

Added $80 for spool

Reckon you can add some bucks for ET streets, a gate, good fuel pump and a bigass trans cooler/lines.

Probably will need a thickwall tail shaft made up - if its making enough power to run 10s its probably going to let go eventually.

I'd get a minispool instead of trying to weld the diff. Thats really hard to do properly.

Probably a few hundred for some wrecker motors while you get the hang of tuning the sucker, and more $$$ for a few that pop prematurely.

Getting the stars to align for some 10sec passes would be a fkn miracle! :D

Also, lets face it, $150 for exhaust parts is pretty slim.

What turbo for 300-400? Where's your wastegate? Boost control? Tyres? Consumables?

There would be a slim, very slight chance that it could be done but I'm willing to put $100 down that it can't.

How about someone put up a thread when they've actually done it...?
I think it could be done but you would need to do it all yourself and get cheap/used/bargain parts. Mine was close but I spent more than 5k and that extra .5 of a second would have cost even more lol.

We assume the car is stock/a shitter because its a bit hard to say you only spent 5k if the car is mint and already has 10k of other bits and pieces on it!

alot of that stuff isnt needed if its going to be a one run wonder. Lets face it, no matter what you do, stock motor/auto WILL let go. Prob 3/4 of the track under load. Should roll over for a 10.99 still though on 25psi and c16! :P

I've been in quite a few, inlcuding my own, that feel perfectly stable and planted at that speed. None of them were dodgy mistreated pieces of shit though.

my xe used to feel unsafe at 100, fair to say it wasnt much better at 200, i never did that more than once though

I've had more than one boxcar over the double ton (...never at the end of a quarter though  ) and while I'm sure an M3/AMG would feel much better, the handling never made me concerned.

I still reckon massive shot of nitrous (with converter, probably cam, valve springs, diff gears, exhaust etc) would be the best bet for a 5k 10... unles you get seriously lucky finding cheap second hand bits.

It's amazing what replacing flogged out components and a wheel alignment does for a car. My XF sat on the road fine at 230 (faster than a Phase 3 :P ) though I spent a staggering $350 on replacing ball joints and bushes.

On a slightly different note, question for the bike guys:

Could you buy a bike and modify it to run 10's for 5k? Say you could weld your own longer rear arm for arguements sake.

200kmh at the drags is a bit different to on the road too..

most/all late model 1000cc sports bikes run 10s stock.. a few mods and a good rider and 9s wouldn't be too far away.

Im furgal and patient so only buy at the right price. I do all my own spannering welding etc. My turbo kit owes me about 2.5k. A rebuilt AOD out of the states would cost 12-1500 so that leaves about 1k for freight. Thats being lazy though and the kit would only cost 6-700 including freight and i would fit it myself. Everything else can be made if its a budget build eg a surge tank is just a bean can with 4 fittings soldered in if it only has to work. Bearing in mind my dollar is worth way less than yours i could spend another grand on mine before i hit your 5k. Ive never had my eb over 165k but it was stable enough there id be happy taking it to 200k. 20 years ago a 10 second car cost 100k or more to build just the motor. Ive seen 10 second road trim mustangs on ebay for under 20k. I think the difference between doing it and failing is in the ability and skills of the person doing it, as that is clearly the can or cant decider in my opinion.

if your smart enough, hands on enough, know the right people and patient enough. it could be done for 7.5k not 5.

you have to do ALL the work yourself, build everything youself, gearbox, diff, motor, manifolds, tuning etc.

hunt around on ebay, gumtree and swapmeets and buy the right parts for the lowest price. if you have to buy something brand new, then knowing the right people will help get it cheaper.

the way I'd do it.
gut the car remove everything thats not needed, keep only the bare essentials

get a second hand motor throw some new rings and bearings in it.
port the head, try and open up the chambers a bit to get the cr down to 8.3:1, make a good turbo manifold yourself, get a decent size second hand turbo in good nick. put a decent cam in it, go find the biggest intercooler for the lowest price possible, and modify it to fit.
find a c4 rebuild and modify it yourself, find a 2nd hand convertor or buy one something around a 4000rpm stall, by some 3.9s and a spool,
some slicks. fuel system again get everything second hand.

everything has to be made, like dump pipe, the cage etc.
tune it yourself, all you want is max power at WOT run it on jungle juice and with a 100 shot of gas to help it.

the 1st paragraph in this is the most post is the most important.

^^^^^^^^^Sounds like you haven't done it before ^^^^^^^^^^^^^^

I think 11's for $5k is more of a possibility and can see that happening. You would still have to do most of it yourself though.

No i haven't, i did say it could be done for 7500 not 5000, also could means, its feasible no matter how remote the odds are.

but like the 1st paragraph states if your smart enough, hands on enough, have the patience and know the right people i think you could do it for around 7500.
doing literally all the work yourself, building and fabricating everything, the box, the diff, the engine, doing all the fab work yourself. i didnt say it would easy, or a quick build. it'd be a long slow **** of a thing that'd take forever to build, waiting for everything to pop up at the right price.

on the diffuculty scale it'd break the meter. it'd be that hard to do, because of the time it'd take to learn how to do everything. but i think, if you covered the above things yourself.

i don't mean get the motor reco'd then put it back in, i'm not talking getting a box reco'd by someone else then putting it in and mounting all the other bits and pieces, as well as a home made manifold.

when i say do all the work yourself, i literally Mean it.
