car is getting parted out tomorrow when kester eventually wakes up and steals his pants back off the stripper who stole them tonight.

i bought his ef, not gonna bother with a build thread as its not getting the bentls plates and its not gonna have much work done to it, just a to b car with some doof and manual for a while so i can focus on saving for something else.....

Should be ok because a Turbo Motor come out in that model. Assuming all the Emissions standards are met by that release of the model.

Its acutally technically means you can legally put a BA Turbo Motor with Turbo in your box car as long as you have all the factory emissions controls from the model it came out of.

you'd still need engineers for a box car though.. just not emmisions, but it doesn't really matter here.

If you are increasing the power of a vchicle by more than 10%, you will need an engineer's certificate for the modifications - regardless of whether the engine was on option on that model. I can clarify that if you like, but I'm pretty sure that's the way VicRoads do things.

So in this case, would that mean you have to get the car on a dyno before you do mods to prove its power as a N/A vehicle, or do you just go by the factory specs that Ford say the car comes from?

It's only 10% now? I thought it was 20%?

I guess with how cars are coming from the factory with 200kw n/a engines, there's a hell of a difference between 10% & 20%... Compared to teh days where sixes were 90-120kw & V8s were 120-140kw.

ok so if if i need engineers certificate to make it legal...thats so easy...
put stock bov on it, put stock intake in it, and considering im using turbo ecu and turbo fuel reg i will pass epa too for emissions cos afaik its a instant fail with rising rate fuel reg and also instant fail with aftermarket ecu... im using a factory ecu for that motor and factory fuel reg. the brakes etc are the same, the chassis is the same, the only problems id run into is diff/trans and tailshaft which can also be changed to turbo items.....so even if i had it engineered its no hassle it would get signed off straight away.

yeh i wouldnt bother but for someone who is anal about that sort of shit....

im not saying its cheap im just saying theres no reason for the engineer to knock it back as far as i can see.... but given the fact there arent any engineers on these forums(at least the kind of engineers we need) we wont know for sure.

Good to see that you changed your mind and have decided to stick with the turboed sleeper mate should go good, the only way your going to know for sure on an engineers cert is to get hold of one and have a chat because mates have told me that they will want to assess everything you do to it, If i'm wrong I'de like to know...

yeah its standard height now... with bilsteins and stiffer springs and bigger swaybars for the sleeper look but will out handle 90% of other b series out there...

kester has ultra kings and whiteline swaybars and mine just feels so much nicer to corner with.

yeah motor has turbo on it now.... just gotta get it in the car and running now hahah.

Image
have since bolted up the water lines and dylan snapped the oil feed banjo bolt lol.... will have to get one from work next week cos autoshit dont know what banjo bolts are...useless kents.

if you dont mind me asking why did you take the engine out to put the turbo gear on.
are you useing your old motor or changeing it to a xr6 turbo motor

or was it eassyer to just rip the motor out and do every thing

Postby bentls » April 12th, 2009, 9:17 pm

i took my motor out because i was chaning the sump over to xr6t, changing water lines to xr6t, changing exhaust manifold and also had to gut the bbm... all of which i found easier to do with the motor out.

here is todays progress....
Image
Image
Image
doesnt look like much but i wired up boost pressure sensor, wastegate control solenoid, bolted up the oil return and oil feed/water feed/return, thicker xr6t radiator (manual as ive got a external trans cooler) also found a new way of getting around dylan snapping the banjo bolt by getting a sandwhich plate for oil filter with screw in fittings and just getting the speedflow fitting to go into that and not use the banjo bolt which works out better in a way because id have had to get one for a oil pressure gauge anyway which i will be putting on in the not too distant future.

thanks to everyone who has helped so far its been good. lets hope i finish it tomorrow without any hassles and get the thing running on tuesday. (have to link the new pcm to the bem at work)

haha you love it tristan.

did a parameter reset on it to code the pcm to the bem today and kicked it in the guts. have no exhaust gaskets yet so it sounded like a truck and it was in limp home mode for some reason but not throwing any codes..... took for a spin with no bonnet built boost then dosed but have a vacuum/boost leak because i have got a bung ready for a boost gauge with no gauge in yet probly built 1-2 psi tops so far lol.
