What about a decent AU2/3 XR8 220 manual? They sound good, drive well and can get 200-220rwkw with bolt ons pretty easily.

That is exactly what I want, but unfortunately don't have 10-15k burning a hole in my pocket. Also, I can be buggered if I am going to get a loan/finance for an AU. If I do loose patience and do that, it will be a manual Boss machine. At least make it worth the arse raping I will get from interest.

Have you driven anything with a Boss? I've driven a few auto/manual 260's and 290's and they're not particularly inspiring.

My cousin has a BF2 Pursuit 290 manual, and even with extractors, exhaust and a tune, the thing's a god damn slug.

I think I just need to stop being so bored and forget about it for a while. I should really be focused on saving for a house, not wasting more money on cars. A loan for a car would pretty much destroy any chance I have at a house anyway.

far cheaper if u break one they are like asshoels these days
and the oil issue isnt even an issue id worry about.. chev have an oil consumption threshold they state the motor should use... holden changed the number but not the motor it just cos they wanted the public to think they were better then they were and chev told them to stfu...

other than that you will have the broken ones out there same as any other brand that chew oil like its goin out of fashion...

on idle they sound tuff as with cams and stuff but when going im not sure ive heard a couple of good ones but the majority i recon sound crap.

yeah not being biased but i think my au sounded good and i like my brothers au3 xr but yeah thats me.
spose some people like different sounds ive only heard 1 good ls1 thats a guy i went to tafe with he drifts it now type in drift8 on youtube he is a pretty good driver.

I'm with Josh, AUII/III 220 > LS1 of same era. The Holdens are more expencive for the same year, and I wouldnt touch anything earlier than VXII. I think a windsor can sound pretty tough if done right. That and I think the AU is a far superior car than VX anyway.
Not going to happen for at least 6 months anyway, got a few other things happening this year. Mainly, saving for my trip to the good old U S of A for Christmas/New Years!

Oh, on another note, I ordered a J3 from Jason yesterday. Hopefully he can organise something for me this week, I am keen to see how much of a difference it will make to my economy. I am starting to do a lot more freeway driving lately, and will most likely be moving over to the west saayyeedd later this year. So my daily commute to work will be mostly freeway. Might work, might not, worth a try anyway.

Got the J3 from Jason last week, thanks heaps mate! Managed to chuck it on yesterday afternoon, after filling the car up again with 98. Now is the big test to see how much of a difference the J3 will make economy wise. I must say, I am did not notice any immediate difference in the way the car drives. I hope I installed it correctly, but it’s on there and the car feels normal. I chucked it on at my mates place in Werribee, so it’s already got a trip back to Resa on the freeway under its belt. I must say, that was 50-odd kms and the needle barely moved! So now we will see how it goes with the daily grind.

Ok, so had a few dramas with installing the J3 chip onto my ECU. Unfortunately I have a severe lack of instruction following skills! In the end I believe I have it installed correctly, after taking the bloody ECU in and out like 4 times!
Anyway, I have just done a full tank of premium after the last attempt at installing the J3, and have done 520kms with the needle now in the red. I think it’s a slight improvement, but not as much as I was going for. I am hoping it’s because the ECU has been off a few times, and it’s going to need another tank or two to relearn the parameters or something. So I am not writing it off just yet. This last tank included the daily work grind, plus a trip to Werribee and back and also a trip to Uncle Kev’s and back!
Photo’s of the aftermath of the trip to Kev’s are pending. Will post up as soon as I take some, but don’t get too excited, it didn’t quite turn out as planned. Then again, like that is a surprise with me!

Nice one. See how you go on the next tank, as I said I was very hesitant to lean on the timing too much given the stock cam so there's definitely more to be had there. Will sort out a retune for nix as per the PM

Awesome, I guess I need to bring my expectations down a little then, cheers guys. The only reason I wasn't over the moon about it, is that I remeber Jason saying he has gotten 550kms out of a tank with his car, with the blower on! So I figured a stocker should be able to at least match that.
Thanks Jason, I think I'll just persist with how it is now and see how it goes in the next tank or two. Hopefully it continues to improve, i'll keep you informed.

Next on the list is to try an organise to get what is now confirmed to be a LSD swapped into my housing. The one I picked up for Kris, as we werent sure if it was a limo or not. I took it with me to Kev's and he is pretty confident it is, so I am happy! Just gotta find the time to get it done.

Anyway, I have to thank Kev and Bomber for their sterling effort yesterday. I have never seen a full set of springs get changed so quickly in my life!! In the driveway with a trolley jack no less! Thanks heaps guys, appreciate it. Unfortunately it didn't quite come out as I had visioned, but I believe that is my fault. I am pretty sure these springs are V8 springs, so the front is sitting too high. Still stock shocks though, so I that doesn't help either. Rear is ok though, if anything a little too low! So yeah, no longer grandpa spec!

Not all lost, Kev said he may be able to rectify the situation. Persuade the springs to sit a little lower, if you know what i mean! I may have to invest in a pair of shortened shocks though, just to be on the safe side.
I am not here nor there on the looks yet, seems too VN Calais for my liking as it is!
