My afternoon:
Swimming in the new pool at my gf's mum's house on 2 acres most of the arvo. It started out hot as Miranda Kerr and slowly became overcast. Looked over and saw the clouds getting darker, and further away some green ones. They were moving pretty slow so I wasn't concerned just yet. Within 10 minutes the wind went from nothing to blowing leaves outta the trees like a flock of birds just got a fright, and some really dark clouds were tumbling from over the house at pace. Then it started spitting. I launched outta the pool and bolted to the EL to park it under shelter. Just as were getting the gf's car in the Oz Barn the heavy rain - and I mean farken heavy - came bucketing down. The wind speed by now would've easily been 100k's. Within a minute the hail came. It was tiny, but there were 11ty billion pieces of it. Then we heard a massive thud, but had no idea what it was. The side door, which was right near the EL, was closed and got ripped open by the wind and the top hinge fell off. The EL was under the side carport and the hail was coming under sideways and hitting the rear. My gf's bro got some towels and doonas and we covered the back and passenger sides. After that I helped him secure the door and then we stood around for a bit, in what was now about 50 mil of flowing muddy water, making sure the EL wasn't gonna get smashed. Then he spotted what made the huge thud noise: one of the big gums down the back had fallen over. By now there were branches everywhere; heavy rain was going sideways; fark all visibility; lightening constantly everywhere; and the long driveway was now a stream. We ran up to the house, hoping not to get taken out by a tree on the way. I checked on my phone which was on the table outside, and it was covered in beads of water. No damage that I could see, but I had to suck the water out of the 3.5mm socket. The power to the property was out. After about 20 minutes it turned into a regular storm.
Later on tonight after dinner I went down to the shed to get the cars out so we could go home. Button clutch + shit tyres + incline + sharp turn + deeply rutted mud = mission. With my gf's bro's help I eventually got it out and I drove up the driveway a bit with the high beams on so he could check out the condition of the driveway. The whole 30m was littered with branches, small and big. One had altered the current of the water and had created a hump, so I had to get a spade and level it. It's still raining which is making everything even more of a PITA. Everyone eventually got the driveway cleared and we packed up the cars and left. Driving down from the end of the long cul de sac very slowly, it looked like a warzone. Shit everywhere. You could see where people had dragged the huge branches off the street. We got about 150m down the road and had to stop. There were 2 trees across the road. I got out and had a slightly closer look to see if we could go 'round and noticed 2 things: one of the trees was laying from one yard to the fence in the yard on the other side; and there were powerlines dangling and laying over the trees. So we're going nowhere 'til tomorrow.
