$5000 On A EB Engine,How Should I Spend It???

Postby Michael (HYPOEB) » April 14th, 2009, 7:29 pm

i got around 5k too spend on my EB XR6 engine. im pritty sure the bottom end is fucked since it blows alot of smoke, knocks every now and then and drinks alot of oil.

so im up for a new bottom end,i was lookin at a DEV 4 Jim Mock engine for $5200 fitted and tuned with 160rwkw.
but now im being told there are alot cheaper ways to get more power, dose anyone have any info on place's i could go to and prices and stuff like that???

any help would be great thanx!

AU engine conversion then turbo it, but would go over 5k if u get a proper turbo setup plus fuel system and tuning.

Maybe AU fully rebuilt with high comp and get abit of headwork done
Wanted Either Capri/Cortina/XY/XW/XR/XT with tough V8 stroker engine, auto, 9inch, upgraded brakes etc

depends how much ya want to do your self.
if your after more then 160rwkw turbo or charger is almost the only way.
not many NA 6's around making that or more.

you can always peice together a turbo kit. people have done it much cheaper.

yeah if u want a nice motor build an au motor built mone for a mate not long ago with mild headwork and a nice wade cam he made 145rwkw on gas and should get another 5-10rwkw more if he gets more gas in.
and paul from cve told him thats the gas is loosing him 20rwkw so on fuel might make 160-165rwkw and i think it cost him all up for pistons ring all machine work about $2000.
oh and its one of the smoothest revving sohc 4litres ive been in.
cheers josh.

I think the smart money is on rebuilding what you've got and you then have options like forced induction, N/A mods, selling or heaven forbid saving some money.

I don't know if things have changed, but the Mocks were accused of having a kW-happy dyno back in the day. And, for the sake of comparison, a brand new 6.2L 317kW HSV motor as fitted to the latest models (without fitment) costs 6 and a bit grand from one supplier.

6-700 for j3 chip with tune.

plus fitting. can do most if it ya self if ya got any mechanical skills.

fitting an au motor into an eb is no problem? just like fitting another eb engine in?

If you're turboing a $500 secondhand motor in unknown condition, just make sure you have extra funds available...

I did that :D 3 years and no oil changes later, she still goes 100 hectares on a single tank of kerosene.

Nah, not really. It had 180 through it which is pretty modest in today's E-Series turbo talk, but the motor did hold up well. Still going, and yeah no oil changes :o I'll get around to it after I change the head gasket.

But yea, $500 motors aren't too bad. The only person I've heard of with millions of dramas with E-Series motors is Wave man's EL.
