Kaaz already stuffed!

Postby big-fella » April 21st, 2009, 7:14 pm

Hi Guys,

Not in a good mood!!

I recently got me diff rebuild with the list:
- Kaaz center (2nd hand, did 300km because wife wanted out of car)
- 3.9's gearset (Brand new)
- New nuts and bolts (Stronger)
- Bearing, shims etc (All new)
- Kaaz oil

I followed all instructions to..
- I did figure-8's varying size for 20mins and no more then 20km/h
- never did more the 80km/h
- I never drove for more then 30 mins
- I did all this for 800km.

From there I was told I can basically do anything I wanted as the bearing will be bedded correctly.

So I drove from Wagga to Orange at 100km (After the first 800km) and that when shiet happened.

I don't really know what happened and this is where I need advice..

In a straight line the car is fine, but around corners it makes a GOD awful LOUD CRACK noise in the diff. It shakes the entire car and it destroying everything.

So slow corners it goes clunk, clunk, clunk, clunk until you straighten up. Round-a-bout's does the same.

If you roll through a corner it doesn't make a noise, but as soon as you touch the accelerator it does it.

I took it back and they said they will look on Monday so I wanted some advice/question I can come as these guys with so they dont stuff me over again!

I am thinking its possibly cooked itself and has seized up. When its cold its far better but once its hot its stuffed!

Maybe the axle is binding up somehow and letting go?

Center stuffed?

Any advice welcome,

Cheers,
Matt

Hmmm it will be interesting to find out exactly what has happened to it. Maybe the previous owner didn't do any of the running in and the damage was done before you got it.

That's interesting to here! I've had no trouble with my KAAZ, some of the best dollars I've spent on the car actually.

I have never had any of those drama's. Sorry I can't help any further, I don't know what goes wrong with them.

I had a mate, kill his Kaaz, in a pretty well stocko VS Stato.
Well kill it, as in it will now single spin a lot of the time. He hates the thing. 2k and he reckons its worse than an LSD.
Seem's they're maybe a bit hit and miss in quality???

Haha that's what I was thinking ever since this thread started. But I know first hand that lokkas have their cons too.

Lokka's only have cons if they aren't setup correctly or you have weak as piss axles. My AU is a daily with a lokka.

Is yours still playing up or is it sorted now?

It seems to have become less likely to unlock, it may have me stumped as to why, but it works now.

Could be a stuff up in the installation process in the first or second vehicle. Also a small possibility that the manufacturer's at fault (even the best have problems). I would ask for a complete tear down and report.

I have been fooled lol.

I just spoke to the guy that built it and he has gone searching for answers for me. Basically there are two ways to set it up. The first way is for race/strip etc which is mega aggressive, and another way which is for street use (still tight) which is similar to the way Peter Brock set them up.

Basically the way the clutches are set up and stacked, is how the diff will react in different situation.

So, new oil today, and rebult next week ;)

I will be getting sent some documents on how this is done. Anyone interested in a copy?

Well I thought the noise was the diff being fucked up. Apparently it was just tigh as a nun!

The axle would bind up and let go. Not good at all for tigh corners.

So see how it goes now. I got the shits and gave it some in a mates block, certanly gets both wheels going now :P
