you running el manual ecu atm?
you running the thermos off the ecu now?

I knew you'd like that part Trav :). It's running an EL auto ECU but Kev got it working properly without the resistor trick. The BBM switching all works as it should. The thermos are also running off the ECU but for some reason at the moment they run constantly on full so something isn't quite right there. He'll sort it I'm sure though

Nice contradiction there.

It needs the resistor mod or a J3.

Yeah, we worked that out today, so we'll fix it later in the week. The trip computer needs setting up too. We mainly focussed on getting it running but there'll be plenty of changing stuff to get it running better in the next week

Cheers Ev. It honestly sounds tougher than it ever did with the 3.9, it's a lot more throaty. Kev and Bomber did an awesome job, just gotta sort a few things out and it should all be good

There is only one wire to change for this, pretty sure theres a link from the T.I. Performance site to a thread on fordmods with the info, you move it from the pin which is now the Data pin, to one of the injector pulse/trigger lines or similar.

Cut the PWM signal wire at the back of the trip computer, solder a new wire on and tap the wire onto the injector pulse signal on the ECU. 20 minute job max including removing plastics n that.

Legend:
Wire/Pin 58 on the ECU is your PWM injector pulse
Pin 5 (Green/Yellow) is your PWM on the trip computer

Car looked and sounded good at Kev's man, good to hear that she's running flawlessly minus the thermo's, but thats easy fixed aswell ;)

All sorted :)

Kev tricked the ECU, now the thermos work as they should. The trip computer also works now, he put new EL leads and rotor cap on it and he advanced the timing slightly as it had a big flat spot down low. It made a massive improvement so now it runs beautifully!

I haven't had them come on full yet since yesterday so I haven't really heard them enough to know if they turn off over 20km! Generally most noises of my car are fairly drowned out by that exhaust

Got rust?
Image

Now it's just got bog :P
Image

Other changes since the last update, I put a standard gearknob back on (Thanks Damo) after I got sick of the worn out aftermarket one and I swapped the front right guard AGAIN! This time the colour match is a lot closer to the door so it'll do till I get around to respraying it. It's got the EL rocker cover back on it now too because the AU one seemed to absorb grease and oil into the paint making it impossible to clean, so my painting skills = epic fail yet again. I've picked up an EF XR rocker cover though so I'll probably chuck it on this weekend

yep, sure did. There were 2 small spot on the other side too, one in the dogleg (needed just a tiny bit of filler) and the other on top of the guard which luckily looked worse than it was

Nice work on keeping this thing clean mate, looks the goods! What type of gear knob did you put on? The reason I ask is because I scored a knob which I thought would fit EL but the thread was too small for the stick. The one I have now I think is a stock EA knob? Looks terrible though! So whats the deal, are box car gear stick threads thicker than EF/EL?

Just a stock EA-ED one. I don't know how different the thread between them but while I used to dislike them, I prefer them now!

SnyperEB wrote:hOW LONG IT TAKE YA TO DO dEZ?
only took a couple of hours in the end. I sanded it back, I used a drill to really attack the edges of the rust and get it all out, a fair bit of hammering and bending to straighten it out a bit, hit it with the rust converter, hit it with several layers of bog allowing it to dry between layers, then sanded it smooth, and just a bit of a rough spray with silver paint. The paint is pretty shitty but in all honesty the rest of the paint on the car is pretty ordinary. It looks fine till you get up close

Seriously? I think its butt ugly man! I like the feel of the later ones myself, especially the nice factory momo, but I dont think they will fit either! :(
I originally thought the same but I also used to think blue checkerplate floormats were a good look! :banghead:
The interior is very much a factory style (ie I've kept it looking quite standard with only subtle changes) so IMO the factory gearknob just suits the theme better. Really the only aftermarket stuff on the car is the front bumper, extractors and stereo!

I might get some EB1 Ghia seats one day but unless I find some in mint condition (not ripped like most e-series leather), I'll stick with these. I like the 2-tone of the current style, and the light grey with dark grey inserts really suits the exterior as well

Yep, the darker EB1 leather recaro type seats are hard to find in good condition, but you could make a good drivers seat from a decent passenger one like I did.

Good work with the rust repair. I have to do the same for mine again soon.

Is it popping back up again? The rust had been getting worse recently but it was actually there for a few years! Probably should have done something about t when it first appeared

Unfortunately, yes, there are more rust bubbles showing their ugly heads.

I do have some clean rust free metal I cut out of another wagon to be welded in at some point. Just have to tee it all up.

I would prefer to wait till then but the Sydney All Ford Day is in June? I think, I may not be able to fit it in by then. May just get the bog out again.

Cheers

It'll keep you busy anyway! Hopefully mine stays away from now on too. It certainly wasn't as bad as yours so that's a start!
