haha nice, well only update is today i went down to see how mick was goin with getting it running better, replaced fuel reg with a 6:1 and put a higher heat range of plugs in it, timing is at 14 degrees and the afr is at about 14.5 on boost hes 99% sure i need higher flowing injectors thats all thats stopping me from getting the around 11.5 to 12 mark, so i am going to source some blue tops out of a magna which accroding to bosch flow 20% more, so it shouldnt be pig rich off boost either. so once i get them and get the afr sorted it can have more timing put into it ;-)

Will be easy to sort off boost fuelling with larger injectors. I'd recommend 36s, EV6 type from VT on supercharged 6 etc, I have them in my EF. 24s may not be big enough.

righto, well i got it back last week and am loving it nice and torquey, had a bit of a sneaky drive out of town and all is good 100% happy with it, only thing is saturday i melted a hole in my brake booster so i have to sort that out this weekend will put the heat wrap i had sitting there on my dump pipe, what have other people done to prevent this happening do the the steel boosters of the earlyer falcons fit? And do they do the job as well as the later ones?

Great result! Make sure you add your car to our site, at http://www.tiperformance.com.au/owners_ ... er_add.php

I melted a boosted with just extractors. A good heat shield made from that ACL tin material was enough to solve it for another 4 years for me (hasn't failed yet).

car started playing up abit latley running lean and few other things got it sussed out where i got the j3 and turned out to be a few things, exhaust gaskets blown, melted vac line and o2 wiring... got them fixed and had it chucked on the dyno to have the tune tweaked a tad, ended up with 218kw in 3rd gear, and 208.6kw in 2nd gear and 1282.7nm of torque :D

also had another apprentice pull the limited slip i had for it apart and all that needed was a new bearing on the pinnion, so today i pulled it right down and put a new bearing set in it, now i just have to find the time ill put it in

Nuh no updates since i got it back.. havent really had time to do anything more on it as ive been finnishing up work in Ouyen and moving back to Mildura full time to start a new job so ive been pretty busy sorting that out latley.

The limited slip i rebuilt for is going in this sunday though, i've also been considering swapping it to manual, will be goin down the path of an aftermarket ecu at some point soon also.. just to control fuel, spark & boost so i can run 12psi... after all thats done an engine rebuild is on the cards i reckon.

I'm saying this car isn't making 1282Nm at the motor. Torque at the rear wheels is dependant on the gear you're in. Try towing a caravan from a standstill in 1st, then try it in 4th. Guess which one will be more successful.

Gear ratios are used to multiply torque. Let's say this car was dyno'ed in third gear, which in a BTR is a 1.00:1 ratio, and the diff is a 3.08 ratio. 1282Nm/3.08 = 416Nm at engine.

If your dyno is configured to show torque at the engine then you don't have this problem. I was just pointing this out because the 1282Nm figure is clearly torque at the rear wheels, not at the engine.

Right well i put this limited slip in yesterday and took it up the road for a test and its got some pretty serious vibration in there someware... im not sure what though.. the diff looks to be sitting at a weird angle like it looks to be pointing downwards a fair bit more than it should..anyone know why this would be?.. i didnt really take much notice of how the old diff sat, but this is putting the uni right before the diff at a pretty harsh angle so im kind of suspecting that.. the new diff is out of a ef futura.. but i assumed they'd be same ef futrua - el gli?

Sounds like the vibration is caused by the bad pinion angle. IIRC the rear upper trailing arms are of different lengths between EF and EL models (i think EF used the longer arms and EL used shorter arms). The EL diffs also had different mounting hole positions for where the upper arms mount to the diff, whereas the EF diffs only had one mounting position. So the shorter EL upper arms combined with the EF diff are the cause of the pinion angle. Swapping the EL upper arms out for some EF ones should fix the pinion angle ;)

Awesome boosted EL you got BTW, love the sleeper look about it, tough!!

yep chucked some ef trailing arms in and it fixed the problem, cheers for that i did suspect it was going to be something to do with either the holes or the arms, and you confirmed it so i got some ef arms on the way home from work and chucked em in and all was good, cheers man sleeper look ftw for sure haha

well i took it for a run tonight with a mate just went out of town and back to clock up a few k's running this diff in, and to my dissatisfaction the auto started slipping about halfway home, it wasnt really in normal driving conditions though it only happend under boost at about 3/4 throttle maybe abit more.. so im hoping i can get away with giving the gearbox a good service, just need it to get me through the test and tune coming up at our local 1/8th mile (haha i know 1/8th mile but its better than nothing) in 3 weeks then im swapping it over to a 5 speed.. other than that everythings great im really happy with the car especially with the limited slip in it now is alot better to drive.. but im not supposed to know that till i get my licence back ;-)

Yeah mate some pics would be much appreciated :)

By the local 1/8th mile. Are you referring to corowa?

And ofcourse you can know it's better to drive when your inthe passenger seat and your mate driving informs you :)

no problem, and nuh the local 1/8th mile im reffering to is the sunset strip here in mildura, should be good just to be able to give it abit of a run.. compare it to my old eb.. wouldnt really say its going to be a "close" comparrsion, as it should run a fair bit quicker than the 9.9second 1/8th mile best of the old eb haha anyway heres the pic's for ya, excuse the filthy car it was raining all morning so just squirted it off. pics are a little big but havent had time to resize them.

I thought mildura was closer to me then what it actually is lol. My bad.

Thanks heaps mate. They look Sexy as. Ever since I got my ef I've wanted to fit white venetians just didn't want to fork out for new ones untill I could see what they looked like. Now I can have two maroon cars with white venetians :)

Your 1/8th mile must be a pretty good one. My vlt with the old setup on it only managed a 10.1 at wilby 1/8th mile couldn't get traction lol very shot track you get more traction on a normal road then at the wilby drags

haha yeah i love em apart from the fact that make it abit harder to see out of the rear window, they just give the car something differant, compared to most falcons up here anyway haha.

yeah our 1/8th is okay probably wont be the best this time around since its the first test and tune of the season but owell, haha we had the doorslammers on it last year and i think there sorting out having them back for the next couple of years so that should be alright, i was quite impressed with the old eb for a $1300 car actually i started with high 10's/11's then once i sorted out my starts i was set.

nommic wrote:I'm saying this car isn't making 1282Nm at the motor.

Tyre diameter also counts - "Nm" = Newton Meter.

One Newton Meter is the force exerted upon a pivot point when 1 Newton of force (1 Newton = 100 grams) is applied at a distance of one meter - For example, to tighten a bolt to 10Nm you need to apply a force of 1 kilogram at the end of a spanner a meter long. 30Nm is 3kg at the same distance, or 6kg of force at a distance of 50cm, or 12kg at a distance of 25cm.

This is exactly why torque measured on a chassis dyno is a fucking useless figure because it is entirely dependent on pretty much everything.

Do a dyno run in 1st gear and you'll get 11ty BAZILLION newton meters of torque, do it again in 5th (or 6th, for those rad kunts among us who have 6 forward gears :P )and you'll have 2/5ths of bugger all.

For the millionth time, IGNORE DYNO TORQUE FIGURES

Look at your car. Now back to mine. Now back to yours. Now back to mine. Sadly, yours isn't mine. But if you stopped buying dodgy cars and bought an ED, yours could be like mine. Look down. Back up. Where are you? ...You're on BoostedFalcon, reading the signature your signature could be like! Anything is possible when your car looks like my car... I'm on a computer.
