Thx every1 u're all not too bad yourselves :P

There's a distinct lack of new threads but no shortage of replies to any NEW threads that come up, like this one.

It's just a matter of not much to talk about at the moment? Seems the same at other forums too. It's like everything's been covered over and over. That matters more here because of how much we flame people if they ask a dumb question or don't do a search for something that's already been covered before asking about it.

In light of all that, we definitely have some of the best E-Series around in our Showroom and Build areas. The lack of VHT and colour coding related posts, and the large amount of innovation that goes on with some cars makes every thread an interesting read.

This is my 7th year on E-Series forums and my interest is honestly on the decline - prob be just a lurker by the end of this year :P I've stopped fking around with my cars as much as I used to and am looking for a car that I'll keep long term.. just waiting for it to come up. Some of the most interesting times on these forums were definitely 2001-2002 when people were doing the first MPFI conversions (Brent79), 5 speed conversions (Bass Crazy), BBM conversions (Bass Crazy), MPFI with gas (Galapogos), 5 speed V8 conversion (NZinAU) ... shit like that was the best. First it would be asked whether it can be done, then a list of parts would be compiled and someone would have a crack at it. Something would then go balls up and then that one little bit of info that was overlooked would be discovered and it was a benefit to anyone doing the mods in future. For example - the difference between distributors for CFI and MPI and also the importance of the "pink" wire to the TFI.

Nowadays nothing seems to interest me as much as it used to. The days of good gains, discovery and the benefit of simple mods like the above have been traded in for good gains from big $$ changes like turbo and 6 speed conversions.. not to mention DOHC.

/emo stuff that needed to be said.

Once people are content with what they have done on their car, the forums become less interesting for two reasons. One is that you wont have anything new to post yourself and secondly you'll be less interested in what others are doing as you have no intention of doing it yourself, because you have either already done it or the amount of $$$$ and work involved is not something your willing to do.

I do miss the days of new discovery as you mentioned, but it was eventually going to happen. There's only so much that can be said before everything has been covered and people are sick of repeating themselves. I find my interest on the forums to be directly related to working on my car. If i'm not doing anything to it, forums become boring, but if i have a few things that i'm doing, my interest starts to come back.

Anyways just felt like saying something :P

^^^ so what are you currently doing to your car Steve if you're posting here? :D

I agree 100% with both of your posts guys.

As for me, I've been here for 5 years now, and my interest in actual mods/tech stuff is beginning to wane, I'm more interested in just catching up with kents at meets & talking shit, rather than actually cruising (skids are different though :P)

I'm perversely proud that my EB is turning into a shitbox through abuse & neglect, but still runz 14z yo.

Some of the threads which were on this forum in the last 6 months include Megasquirt build, 6spd conversion, tko 5spd conversion, BA engine conversion, EECV hacking & tuning, V8 blower conversion... these off the top of my head. Each turbo conversion has different ideas and approaches, some achieving great results for bugger all money. I think there's plenty to read even if you're not going to do any of those things to your car any time soon.

I think there is plenty of new discovery going on, I just think that some of us are growing out of the fad that was interesting when we were 18-21, and some are in for the longer (more serious) haul. There are guys on here who make their bread and butter out of modifying cars, and also guys who have put upwards of 20k into their own.

That and most people are tempted by <$20K BA Turbos producing reliable power with fewer issues with roadworthy/cops/...

E-Series FTW...I think their is more discovery to happen, BA conversions 'ave only just begun, then their will be Six speed conversions, more BA parts and even more E-series first timers looking for clear indicators and Au repeaters.

These days there just E-Series shells with either AU or BA motors, BF 6spd's, AU consoles.

There will never be a shortage of mods to do. Someone will always be thinking outside the box, no pun intended!

Even if they just turn into GT mock up's most of them will be more powerful, stop better and have better features than the originals.
