Sounds like you have broken a ring land or something. Buy a new motor and get a tune brfore driving it
Self-control is not doing a roll-on on the freeway at 100km/h,

Sounds like you are pressurizing the rocker cover,

either run the rocker cover breather at the rear of the engine to atmosphere or a catch can.
and block off the other end that is either in the intake pipe or throttle body.

Yeah I reckon, **** some people are quick to jump on the broken engine bandwagon!!

Make sure that both the rocker cover breathers are routed from rocker cover, into a catch can, then out of the can and into the intake BEFORE the turbo, preferably just behind the air filter.

If you leave the PCV setup as per factory it'll blow boost into the crankcase and pressurise it big time.

I also noticed no one has said to remove rocker cover and clean under the relief area for the pcv valve,or clean the pcv valve itself.
its not hard and they do get pretty gummed up with crap,i use brake cleaner and then shake it ,if you can hear it rattle ,they normally work fine. :)
Oh and my ef turbo runs 20psi with the pcv in tact,no catch can.

get a catch can!!!!

next thing clean down the top of the head and the rocker cover with brake cleaner and a rag, dry it and apply just a smear of neutral cure silicon on both side of the (rubber) rocker cover gasket.

make sure you get the kit with the spacer bolt plates and torque correctly.

clean out you PCV and the rear breather, use a decent purpose designed catch can too, helps. i had same issues at 18psi (gt42r)
lifes' short, if you aren't doing what you want to do then you need to start now......

Motor probably is tired ie rings arnt sealing as good as new. Try a compression test if you want to be sure you havnt done damage. Set catch can up correctly by removing PVC valve and I found running breather line from your carch can to your intake heaps a bit as well. Get a tune as well if already havnt done so if you want to give it the best chance of lasting

People that know **** all?

I assumed that from what he said he has been driving around without a tune, if that's the case how long do you expect the motor to last? If he has a tune I'm probably wrong. I have had motors that have blown gaskets due to blowby caused by worn rings. In reality there shouldn't be very much pressure under the rocker cover.

When I had he same issue as you I used a catch can. It worked great till I started pushing more boost into it and the more boost I ran the more places started leaking. Eventually I got sick of fixing gaskets that would start leaking a week later, so I got a new motor, which was good untill it started lifting the head.

Edit: if you do a catch can I agree that a breather to the intake side of your turbo is a must, it will help uck pressure from the catch can and rocker cover and will stop the smell of oily blowby getting into the cabin

Would be better if people looked to the simple things first,people ask but dont give the whole rundown of what is going on.
Also most people ask before using a little grey matter and starting a process of elimination,which in turn leads other people to come up with bigger solutions, when it is more than likely a simple one.
my engine has over 240kms on it and doesnt blow smoke or have a catch can at 20psi,but people drive things differently too. :good:

Your breather setup has the PCV as per factory, and you run the rear vent to atmosphere, or to the intake of the turbo ?

Atmosphere,check it regularly as it sits on the edge of the firewall,never had any spill yet.
In saying that,it was the first thing I did when i bought the car was to clean pvc relief area and valve as it was a mess.

Bear in mind that atmo venting catch can is illegal and cop bait, if you're going to do that.

If you run them both to turbo intake with a catch can it'll vent crank case gasses better and be legal...well, less illegal in the case of you vic blokes :/

PCV = Positive Crankcase Ventilation!!!

NOT!

PVC = Polyvinyl chloride

Sorry for rant, just saw it spelt wrong a few times in this thread :)

Engine fine just wasnt running any breathers from the rocker cover it still had the pcv valve in the cover with a small pipe running back to the inlet manifold removed the valve and pipe to manifold and replaced with -10 braided line into alloy catch can with k&n filter . problem solved

Hey guys, I'm having the same problem with my mates ba xr6 turbo, It is always leaking from the back of the rocker. I think it has some blow by, as this was a common problem with early xr6 turbo's. the car runs extremely well, but it's not breathing properly. I'm wanting to setup a catch for it just for the time being till he organizes funds for a new motor. Can anyone put up some photos of there set ups and where you have the lines running to from the motor?? Be much appreciated

If its leaking at the back of the cover its probably just the VCT sensors.

Back of the rocker as in back of the rocker cover above the bellhousing?? Its probably just the rocker cover gasket leaking. If you have tried to replace it thinking its the gasket, you have probably lipped the gasket at the back. Never heard of the issue you speak of regarding blow by, its a factory turbo setup, you shouldnt have any problems like that.

Weld in some big fittings for breathers, the bigger the better when your boosting a motor.
