Halo you cant practice law with a criminal record can you?? If you lose it and hit someone and you were speeding you'd get a criminal record. Thought you'd have been a bit more sensible than that.

Wish i knew about that official warning thing. My first fine was 51 (taken down from 53 from the camera tollerance) in a 50 zone. Shoulda written in!!! Though that was years ago.

53 in a 50 zone?!?!?!?! that is a load of it....3 k's over.....i'd be livid if i got done for that aye

i mean yea.....cos ya were "technically" speeding...but i'd love to see those cops stay exactly on the speed limit.....bet they go 3 measley lil k's over every time they get in the car too...theres gotta be a lil exception for an amount as small as that...but meh

never got done for speeding....luckily...i have my moments of complete idiocy...but i been pretty good lately...did get a ticket for driving unregistered vehicle....in the carpark of my work...that sucked...since it wasnt even my car either...completely off topic lol my bad

its the law, i broke it, i suffer the consequences.. was just questioning the appropriateness of the law in that particular situation.

who said i was crying for sympathy?? first post of thread says "Would like to hear stories of other ppls experiences of speeding fines and how u got done, how fast u were going etc etc. " so i was just answering this...

im goin strong :D
over a year from when i got my license and no fines :D
and only been pulled over for breatho twice i think.

considering the way i drive iv done a bloody good job.
i think the main thing that keeps people like me out of fines is, speeding only when ya know the area and when there is very little chance of harming anyone else.
or speeding on the highway in geelong doin 80 in 70 zone cause even the cops do that :P

hell if i got a fine now for speeding i would say rito thats less than $1 per time iv been over the limit so fair enough :D

but yes i agree with some of you about people speeding when it is a narow street or busy etc and doing excessive speed.

EDFalcon yep your right.. not sure what i wanna do with myself being only 19 years old other than have a good time so thats exactly what Ive been doing aha.

Honestly, it has taught me a lesson.. I received 2 3 month suspensions, one after the other with a 1 month break or so in between them. For that one month, I was so cautious, I sped only on one occasion that being on an unused factory road at 3am having a few runs against my mates civic.. other than that nope never sped.

So yeh, it is reckless and stupid etc I was just arguing that while I did break the law I thought the law was harsh given the situation I broke the law in. Going 42 over in say a school zone at 3pm, definitely I'd be 100% the other way around.

Anyway, can we put the issue to rest.

Not getting caught is probably the best thing you can do to save hassles. Now you have two options, either don't speed at all, or be smart about where you do it. I choose the latter (see sig), and consequently have never lost a point. Each to their own I guess though.

Its all a luck game. I had nothing for 3 years then lost 7 points in 1 year. : / I got most of my being a dickhead and hooning out in the years where I didnt lose a point.

The other times were just the usual running around riding in traffic and a cop / speed camera being too sneaky catching me accelerating when I shouldnt have been.

What the guy with the awesome name with the correct spelling said.
I race people on the ring road, and in the words of someone on here, "you are a fucking idiot sometimes Jared".
I have never lost a point or been pulled over for anything other then an RBT.
WHY you ask?
A combination of me being a semi-intelligent fucking idiot, and also, if I was out, and some random hobo cnt ever asked me for a dart, I would give him one.
This has got me good karma.

halo wrote:its illegal but i justify it as ok... aha i know that sounds a bit crazy but think about it.. parliament has the ability to make a law on anything they want. i study law and should the government so decide it would be legally, albeit not socially, acceptably to create a law allowing for the killing of all babies with say blue eyes for example. How does this relate to my speeding? Just because something is legally enforceable does not mean that it is socially correct. For me, going 100 over the anzac bridge with no traffic is acceptable - i was in control, knew my car/road, if something did go wrong it was only me to go anyway.

i dont speed in those 60km/h streets with a million driveways, bumps, and trees

this is what i sped on: http://www.top-city-photos.com/images/A ... Bridge.JPG

without traffic/pedestrians i dont see the big deal. Its pretty much just a big 4 lane each way highway, similar to the one up to newcastle which you can go over 100 with traffic.

Dude you study law - did they not tell you that the laws are made to reflect communities and their values as a whole not each individual?

1. Speed limits are determined to be a good average for all conditions, not based on how many cars are on the road at any particular time in the cosmos.
2. Bridges can be extremely dangerous if there is an accident (tipping over, pile ups as theres no where for others to swerve, major delays which also puts stress on other infrastructure etc etc), hence the 'lower' limits on areas such as these.
3. Jessica Alba is smooth
4. They cant go making up different laws for EACH individual just because they think their a sik **** driver. How does the cop know you have a good knowledge of the area? He doesn't he can only take in the bullshit you tell him.

= FAIL - I hope you got shut down by the coppa :D

I've had my share.

Easter Sunday 2006 - 80k in 60k zone, middle of nowhere, $220 or something, 3 points.
Cruising home with Gaz - 95k in 60k zone, outer Ballarat, 1 month loss of license, can't remember fine amount, 4 points (also fined for not having my wallet on me)
Late for work - 121k in 100k zone, between Geelong and Ballarat, $220, 3 points.

All up, 10 points.

I dunno about other states but in QLD a police car without its lights on cannot exceed the speed limit so if they get caught out/go through a speed camera and get done they get in pretty serious shit and can stand to lose their job. Even with their lights on they are only allowed to exceed the speed limit by a maximum of 30km/h.

That being said i have seen plenty of cop cars cruising around at 5, 10 or 20km/h over the limit without lights on so i guess its not heavily enforced.

lol at this quote, I've seen cars/trucks who have been driving the same stretch of silent country road 2 or more times daily for 20 years (and could drive it blindfolded in a bathtub) end up wrapping around trees/bouncing off guard rails, even jumping guard rails and heading downhill! No external factors, by all accounts it was just another drive on the same road, just ended differently, so there's no such thing as 'I knew I wouldn't crash'

My record is clean, in my 4 years of driving I've only ever been pulled over for random breath tests, haven't lost a point and haven't copped a fine.

And the lesson we learn from when we get caught speeding.

Dont do it again.

Easter weekend I got done doing 115 in a 100 zone, so did my boss lol but meh shit happens.

The weekend before that in Lismore (between Wbool n Ballarat) I seen the police car, he had his radar out and all, and he was inside the 80km/h zone and I done 100km/h past him. Meh shit happens should of been concertrating on the speedo and not the police car.

Although im quite peeved, just before Chapz back in my XR6 days, just after the riots I was with Age GMHKLR or what ever his plates were I was doing 70 he was doing 90 and I got the fine. Got off that thou.

But what lesson did we learn

DONT SPEED

I didn't have a speeding fine for the first 4 years of driving, got the EF, thought I was a tuff kent cos I had a V8, 15 points in 3 years, including 7 points within a week. Thing that sucked about those 3 fines, they were all on the outskirts of little country towns, late at night within 200m of the speed zone changing. Ah well, lesson learnt I guess.

I still owe Victoria about $400 in speeding fines, I rang them to actually organise payment, they said they would send it out, but I never saw it. I guess they're over it, I was in Melb about 6 months ago and got pulled over, nothing came up on the rego/licence check.

A good excuse to use is 'sorry officer, I must have taken my eyes off the speedo to look at the road for a second'.
Not a good excuse is 'Sorry officer, I had to get home so I can bang your wife and daughter'

One other thing to keep in mind, all cops have to have a reflective vest on when out of the car at night time, it's a $1000-$1500 fine for them, depending on the state. They all know this, and I've saved my ass a couple of times by nicely asking where their vests are.

so what your saying is that is a police officer driving a unmarked/marked car, driving at a speed above the limit with no warning lights or sirens is alowed to, but if a but if a bloke in a VE comodore does it, its Hooning/speeding.

im pretty sure police cars, (unless there got sirens and lights on) have to obey the law.

but if youve got hard evidince(sp?) that says that coppa's can do whateva the want then hell ill stand corected.

Cops are allowed to speed. They aren't allowed to do it willy nilly, but they can if the situation requires. Don't need lights or sirens to do so, though in most cases they would have at least the lights on. But there are times when they would need to speed and not have lights on. They also do a **** load more driving training than you do to get your licence. Plus probably pay a lot more attention knowing that if they stack they are in for a metric ass load of paper work.

Of course there would be coppers who speed with no reason, but what do you do.

Had a mate (a doofus  ) who travelled (sped  ) to and fro Colac on Geelong freeway. Worked there for 4 weeks so went down (sped) on a Monday morning then back (sped  ) on a friday night! Little did he know (der  ) there is a fixed speed camera, so by the time he got his first fine 3 weeks later so did the rest of the fines for the rest of his trips to and fro. 6 speeding fines, a gazillion demerit points, loss of licence and a shitload of $$$ . Faaark. Ummm I think he learnt his lesson after that. But yeah an absolutely dope!

speeding is speeding regardless. if there were trees i thought you would slow down a bit for safety?

does anyone know if there is a camera on the side of the road and you see a flash how long it takes for it to come out?

If abcisfun is caught speeding through the trees, does it make a sound? :D

Jeez, sorry I wasn't perfect in what I said

I ment the camera was on the opposite side of the road, with a 'nature strip' in the middle... Meaning there would be tree's between me and the camera... Wouldn't that make a difference?

I'm definatly not driving if don't have to anymore!
