So is this a general "how many L/100km does your car do?" thread or is it specifically aimed at blown 4.0s?

And by blown, are we talking Vortech, Raptor, Powerdyne, positive displacement... ?

If everybody puts their cars down (ie, all the NA people), you'll have a hard time getting the figures you're after.

I could tell you what my economy in my totally stock EF wagon on LPG is, but I don't think that'll help you with indicating what the economy should be like for a 10psi blown EL (presumably on petrol) :P

I doubt you'll get any boosted figures, as the factory trip computer won't be accurate with RR regs, larger injectors/fuel rail pressure etc. (Unless their EMS has a mileage function)

donno,

For short squirts that makes sense, but for overall fuel economy it'd be as simple as how many kms per tank you can get, & then interpolating this into L/100km

I've never taken any notice of what I get. If the car needs petrol I get petrol. Um are we talking supercharger or turbo charger? Because that will make a difference. I imagine you are talking supercharger by the way you worded it.

My answer in short is... I don't know!

Strictly speaking about highway driving here, I doubt it would be accurate enough though - we all know that when the bowser clicks off isn't an exact 68L, and the slightest angle that the car is parked on can mean the difference between 1/8th and 1/4 of a tank. Then if you really want to get technical and take into account parallax error, expansion and evaporation etc... You might get it right to within say 2L/100km (as little as 8L extra in the tank/gauge error could do this), but the margin of error is around the actual difference of N/A to boosted we're talking about here.

City driving would be a whole different kettle of fish. How much boost is being run, the specifics of the setup, how hard is it being driven etc, there is no yardstick measure. If you want a ballpark number, get the margin between the BA-BF xr6s and xr6 turbos, find the percentage difference, and apply it to a stock e series figure. Then again, we're back at square one, margin of accuracy vs actual difference.

man i take this shit too seriously for a friday

But are you really that concerned about the decimal figures for fuel consumption?

I find that filling the tank several times & driving in a similar fashion (in the V8... n/a, and in the wagon, LPG) gives figures to within +/-1L per 100km accuracy.

^^^ which is similar to what you're saying I guess with all the technical factors. Depends on whether you want accuracy to the nth degree (which will all be thrown out the window with something as simple as a change in driver behaviour), or just a guesstimate

Postby Steady » June 20th, 2008, 5:13 pm

Depends on the tune.
Dave/EL XR8 running 7-8psi with a Vortech got EXACTLY the same economy as me in the Sprint on the way back from Canberra.
We both filled up at the same station in Canberra, and when we stopped to get more petrol we both got the exact same amount of fuel in.
Spun me out.
Obviously thats a supercharged 5L, but it shows that with a decent tune, your economy really shouldn't suffer for highway driving.

edit: From memory it was like 600kms to 60ish litres, so around the 10l/100km mark

Another example is you bragging about your 4k stereo in someone elses build thread. I thought you werent going to put your stereo in until you ran down the qtr?

lol

Dave kinda gets it! lol

I'm just tryin to work out what i should expect from a Supercharged 4ltr El, with some head work(Not sure on the extent yet)
The supercharger is a STA running 10psi.

I'm guessing it would be about the 20l/100k.

What do you guys get? Like turbo 4ltrs and blown 4ltrs. How much Boost are you running? and how much diffence does 1psi make to fuel usage?
Just roughly, I'm not asking for "My car gets 15.000789L per 100K"

I don't know if you want blown 5L's???

But as Steady has said...
About 10-11l/100km on pure hwy driving. (Its ok Jared, you did actually beat me by 1l, over the 600km. I did have some extra dead weight though! You know 'who' i mean!) ;) LOL

Atm, with a lot of stop start driving and shit like that, i'm getting around 15l/100

I'd just expect to get 300-400km from a tank of mixed driving, and that should be about right. But if anything, you might get better economy.

It depends what you're happy to accept for fuel consumption.

Mine went up a bit, for highway cruising. I used to to 800km of purely hwy driving out of a tank.
Now its only 550km. But you could still get the tune a little more lean to make it better again. Mine is still a little rich, which i'm happy with.

If you do a heap of stop start driving, you might notice the economy drop a little more than hwy driving.

Either way, its not that bad. But i'm like Jared, i just get out a few pineapples and pay for it.

So you're definitely getting it Parker? If so, well done mate, it's one damn clean car. Whatever you do get an extra muffler in ASAP before you get done, and remember to see Paul @ CVE as he'll sort you out with anything STA related (he used to work there).

I get 11-12l/100kms out of mine (turbo, around 7psi) with about 60% freeway and the rest stop/start. That's with 550cc injectors and aftermarket ECU which could probably be tuned a little better. Much better than my stock AU which gets no about 16l/100, but then that does alot of short trips.
