So the beast is officially mine! Passed road worthy today, all it needed was windscreen wiper blades and the handbrake to be adjusted! I put brand new tyres on it yesterday just to be sure, Toyo Teo Plus in 235/45/17 all round. They said everything else checked out, ball joints, suspension, no oil leaks! Gotta be happy with that! So I transferred it and put my black and white plates on it, now with lpg stickers. Also picked up a new black Momo gear knob from the Rat Global eBay store.
I'm not happy with the exhaust though, and having a look as it was up on the hoist confirmed what i was told by the previous owner. It's a stock twin system with the mufflers removed. So it's straight pipe from the cats back to the tiny little muffler thing up behind the bumper. Sounds ok from inside the car, but sounds ridiculous outside. Plus it's down on torque due to not having any back pressure. I plan to replace the whole system, maybe the cats too. I might also put slightly higher/softer springs in it too, as it is a little too jittery on bad surfaces. Other than that, I'm wrapped with the pickup! :D

injected gas shouldn't lose much over petrol so maybe it just needs a proper tune.

I wish it was injected gas man! But alas it is just a standard mixer system. There was a green AUII XR8 manual ute with injected gas for sale a few months ago, but I'm happier with a sedan. The one good thing about this exhaust is the epic burble on the over run! Not sure if it's exactly healthy for the motor to be doing that, but it's fricken addictive!

You mean on the 3V Rollin? That car's problems had nothing to do with the exhaust. Turns out it was just a coincidence that the ZF started to die as soon as I changed the exhaust. The system I had on the red AU was ficken mint! But I am in no rush to change anything else at this point. Maybe the springs, but that is not desperate either. I got through the week and lpg gauge still hasn't gone into the red yet! If I can keep that up I'll be laughing! :D

Actually, the one thing that I came up with last night was finding out how feasible it would be to convert the gas system to gas injection? No idea how much of the existing system could be used? Probably not worth it, just an idea I'm floating.

BenJ converted his eb 6cyl to liquid injection from his standard.
Might have some idea as to what gets used and what gets thrown away.
Pretty sure it's everything gone except tank, filler and supply line

Yeah, if you want to up the performance, look into vapour injection rather than changing the exhaust. But I reckon just leave it as-is, sounds like it gets good economy, sounds good and drives well!

Good buy.

Hmm, interesting. Thanks for the link Misk! I might eventually make some calls and see if any gas places are willing to do the job. I would rather get a new exhaust and springs first before anything else though.

And in other news, to help that cause, I sold the Turd today! Put it up on car sales and had three calls the following day. Got $1500 for it this afternoon!

suggesting vapor injection is a bit different to pushing someone to turbo their car...

if its running good at the moment then theres no need to change until he wants more power, thats really it.

Re: EVS DE-EVOLUTION

Postby ClassicAU » December 1st, 2013, 5:36 pm

As much as everyone is under the impression I fold to peer pressure, I like to think I have some autonomous thought about my purchases! At least lately anyway. The Raptor on the Red Baron worked out great as far as I am concerned. The only issues I ever had after the tune was sorted, was melted belts. That was due to trying to take the setup beyond it's limits. It was a street setup, and performed that task awesomely!

Anyway, as for the question of vapor injection on the new pickup, it is more for reliable performance anyway. It very much does not like being pushed when running on lpg as it is. Any more than half throttle and it will cough and splutter and generally hate life. But I just put that down to being a standard mixer setup that's only designed for regular economy driving. I figure if I want to push it, I will simply flick it to petrol. Runs completely fine on petrol. So I though an injection kit might help it perform better on lpg also. As I said, it's not desperate, just something I figure would be nice to have.

I would look into the injection kits, my mate had one on his EF XR8, and just got a kit put on his BA XR8. He said it was so much nicer in the performance dept with the injection over the converter style setup. Still had the same balls on gas as on petrol with the injection.

Sounds like a decent upgrade! Best thing is legally nothing would have to be plated or declared. It's probably in your interest to get someone knowledgable still to carry out the work for safety.

I wonder if anyone has fitted a system like that to an EGAS or DLPG factory vehicle?
